Love, Marriage, Divorce, Condi Rice and Wonder Woman

On today’s Satellite Sisters podcast, Lian Dolan, Julie Dolan and Liz Dolan discuss Condi Rice and Madam Secretary’s uncanny ability to predict the future, news on the future of love + marriage plus new brain science says that we are not meant to live in the now.  Plus travel news, fitness update and Robin Wright’s training regimen for Wonder Woman.

Conde Rice Democracy Madam Secretary

In Condi Rice’s new book Democracy, she writes about a crazy creepy crush that Khaddafi had on her. Hey, Madam Secretary watchers. Was this not a plot line earlier this season with a fictional strongman from the Philippines? Crazy coincidence or inside scoop? Well done, Barbara Hall and #MSec team.

First up, we salute the writers of Madam Secretary for anticipating the world’s focus on NATO’s Article 5. Two weeks ago, we had never heard of it.  Now, following the recent NATO meeting in Brussels, it’s on every front page around the world.  Plus, in Condoleezza Rice’s new book Democracy, she talks about General Muammar Khaddafi having a crazy crush on her.  Correct us if we are wrong, but didn’t Madam Secretary nail that plot line earlier in the season with a fictional leader of the Philippines? Crazy coincidence or inside scoop?

According to new scientific research, we’re not meant to live in the moment. Our most human trait is planning for the future. Worriers, Unite! This is good news for those of us who like to lie awake at night and imagine all the ways our future plans could go awry– or right. From the New York Times, We Aren’t Meant to Live in the Moment

Julie’s discussion about modern marriage is sparked by a release about a new book entitled “The New I Do: Reshaping Marriage for Skeptics, Realists and Rebels“. From there, we comment on this runners wedding announcement, this story about planning for divorce and this beautiful piece of Modern Love writing by solid gold Satellite Sister Delia Ephron. Plus First Ladies Desk: Renewing the mission to leave the ladies alone.

Robin Wright Wonder Woman

Robin Wright, Amazon General in the new Wonder Woman, told Stephen Colbert that in training it was very hard to eat 2000 – 3000 calories a day. Robin, call us. We got this.

Liz bumps into Wonder Woman Amazon General Robin Wright and wants to offer some training advice based on something she said on Colbert.  Liz is also not too sure that hanging all the furniture on hotel room walls Shaker-style is a great innovation but she’s happy to see the hotel minibars go.  Lian is excited about the announcement of Alanis Morrisette’s new musical.  You oughta go!

Urban Nana in Brooklyn, DNA Report, Grocery Trends

Dennis Rodman at West Point

North Korea and Malaysia are in the diplomatic tit-for-tat and guess who steps up at West Point to address the issues?  Dennis Rodman. He offers to broker a meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un. We cannot make this up, people.

On today’s Satellite Sisters podcast, Urban Nana is in Brooklyn but Julie’s still got the international news from North Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines,  Lian has grocery trends and Worst Pitch of the Day plus Liz wants her DNA to work a little harder for Operation Sea Turtle.

Julie reviews the latest diplomatic tit-for-tat between North Korea and Malaysia over the assassination of Kim Jong Un’s half brother.  Good news for North Koreans who are now not allowed to leave Malaysia. Bad news for the Malaysian delegation in North Korea.  No exit for you. Luckily, we read that Dennis Rodman is stepping in to broker a meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un. Let us know as soon as they start selling tickets to that one. Julie also warns the team at our favorite CBS TV drama that the Philippine government is protesting an upcoming episode.  Fact or fiction?  We really can’t tell anymore. Be sure to listen to Satellite Sisters Talk TV recap of Madam Secretary for more discussion of Tess’ Philippine situation.

Satellite Sisters recommend the Fondoodler, a hot glue gun for cheese.

A hot glue gun for cheese? What took so long! The Fondoodler was one of many products that Liz found in the Satellite Sisters email box and cannot wait to try.

Lian says Jeff Bezos is working on amazon deliveries on the moon but Liz is still not that interested in going. Lian has the Worst Pitch of the Week.  Kegels and kids do not mix.  Sorry, Kegel Bear.  Liz gets her latest DNA report from 23andme and is disappointed that their wellness tips are pretty much Self Magazine circa 1988. Lian’s grocery store trends and food trends include the prediction that “grocerants”, part restaurant/part grocery store are the coming thing.  OK, by why not call them “resteries”, a much better fake word. And Liz reads the spam that came into sisters@satellitesisters mailbox.  Highlights include:

Inaugural Week on Madam Secretary

Satellite Sisters Talk TV

Fictional Inaugural Week on TV! Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan of the Satellite Sisters recap the CBS drama Madam Secretary episode 311 called Gift Horse. This episode was written by show creator Barbara Hall and was called Gift Horse but could have been called Kitchen Sink because we got it all. A veritable potpourri for our fictional Secretary of State and the rest of the Dalton administration. A stand-out show for Blake the Assistant who was tasked with the job of returning the aforementioned Gift Horse. He was tested emotionally, organizationally and sartorially.

Mongolian Horses
Russian Hacking
Questionable Election Results
Horse Trading for Cabinet Positions
Poetry, Physics and the Meaning of Beauty
The Dao of Tech Guys
Walking Desks
Inaugural Fashion
Intern nightmares
Black Dog Station Returns
The Applebys Paradox
And the Manure Offensive
Hi, Blake... can you get rid of a horse for me? Thanks. I gotta go to a ball.

Hi, Blake… can you get rid of a horse for me? Thanks. I gotta go to a ball.

It’s Hard to know where to start, so I put together an Inaugural To Do List for this episode:

Madam Secretary Recap 309: Black Undergarments Confirmed

Satellite Sisters Talk TV
The Satellite Sisters Talk TV! This week’s episode of the CBS drama Madam Secretary was ripped from the headlines: Nuclear Weapons in Iran! Russian interference!  Fake News! White Privilege getting into Harvard! But all we could really focus on was: CONFIRMATION OF BLACK UNDERGARMENTS!!!! That’s right, all season long, Julie has been speculating about the color of Madam Secretary’s undergarments and this week, we got proof positive that Bess wears black underneath all those white silk blouses. Julie vows that if Madam Secretary can defy convention, so can she. Lian just wants to know where those disk earrings came from. But first, the storylines from this week’s episode of Madam Secretary called Snap Back:
At the White House: Iran deal falls apart and unless Bess can put  it back together.
At The Racketball Court: That’s right, real men do play racketball. At least they do on TV. Henry shows off his racketball skills while trying to persuade and old friend to vote for Dalton
At the McCord house: Stevie wants to go to Harvard Law School and she’s pulling strings to get a letter of recommendation from Chief of staff Russell.  And Russell is jusy DYING to give it to her.

Madam Secretary Recap: Election Night Show Tunes!

Satellite Sisters Talk TV

It’s Election Night again! Woo-Hoo! At least on TV. Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan of the Satellite Sisters recap the CBS drama Madam Secretary. This week, it’s Season 3, Episode 8 called Breakout Capacity. Julie tells us that phrase has something to do with the production of nuclear weapons, but Lian thinks it’s really more about show tunes at the piano bar. We started to sweat a little when we heard the words “electoral college; and “Ohio is in play” in the opening scenes, but when we realized it was Dalton up for re-election, we relaxed. Listen as we break down the three story lines in this episode of Madam Secretary. Diplomatic Crises on Election Night: the nuclear deal that the admin negotiated with Russia and Iran is in jeopardy!  The staff on Election Night: which is apparently the one day in DC when everyone goes crazy, drinks a lot, sings showtunes and sleeps with fremenies.  Those wonks at the Department of State needs to get out more often because they all made some socially awkward choices. And on the home front: Jason goes Oppo and Henry has to school him on keeping your mouth shut until you actually know something. Hahahahahaha.  In our Binders Full of Blouses, MSEc scores with two gorgeous white pleated numbers that Julie thinks every woman should own. And props to the accessories this week on Madam Secretary. Who wins the election, you ask? Well, we’ll have to wait until January to see. But really, we all win. Because Bess is the best.

Madam Secretary Recap: My Boyfriend’s Back- Eric Stoltz

Satellite Sisters Talk TV

Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan of the Satellite Sisters with their weekly recap of the CBs drama Madam Secretary starring Tea Leoni, Tim Daly & Eric Stolzt. Tectonic Shift but could have been called Complicated Relationships: US and Venezuela; Secretary of State and Older Sister Bess and War Zone Doctor and Little Brother Will;  Nadine and the wife of the man she had an affair with her boss. There’s an earthquake in Venezuela, but there are tectonic shifts all over DC in this episode. Like the face-off between Nadine and Arabella over the former Secretary of State. Also, in the “how did they know” category, fake news becomes a key plot point in the episode like it has (sadly) become a plot point in our actual elections. Plus, a lot of male bonding happening in the McCord kitchen with yogurt, sparkling water and nubby fibers. Joing us for this week’s Madam Secretary Recap Podcast.

th-8Binders full of blouses
On Bess, we loved the blueBlouse. Again.
Great blue earrings!
Dress down Daisy and Nadine! Casual Sunday at State/
But special commendations to the many many cargo looks of Will, aka Eric Stoltz. Aka Lian’s boyfriend :
The cargo pants, the cargo jacket, the cargo bags, the brown corduroy blazer that is so 1983!
