Urban Nana in Brooklyn, DNA Report, Grocery Trends

Dennis Rodman at West Point

North Korea and Malaysia are in the diplomatic tit-for-tat and guess who steps up at West Point to address the issues?  Dennis Rodman. He offers to broker a meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un. We cannot make this up, people.

On today’s Satellite Sisters podcast, Urban Nana is in Brooklyn but Julie’s still got the international news from North Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines,  Lian has grocery trends and Worst Pitch of the Day plus Liz wants her DNA to work a little harder for Operation Sea Turtle.

Julie reviews the latest diplomatic tit-for-tat between North Korea and Malaysia over the assassination of Kim Jong Un’s half brother.  Good news for North Koreans who are now not allowed to leave Malaysia. Bad news for the Malaysian delegation in North Korea.  No exit for you. Luckily, we read that Dennis Rodman is stepping in to broker a meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un. Let us know as soon as they start selling tickets to that one. Julie also warns the team at our favorite CBS TV drama that the Philippine government is protesting an upcoming episode.  Fact or fiction?  We really can’t tell anymore. Be sure to listen to Satellite Sisters Talk TV recap of Madam Secretary for more discussion of Tess’ Philippine situation.

Satellite Sisters recommend the Fondoodler, a hot glue gun for cheese.

A hot glue gun for cheese? What took so long! The Fondoodler was one of many products that Liz found in the Satellite Sisters email box and cannot wait to try.

Lian says Jeff Bezos is working on amazon deliveries on the moon but Liz is still not that interested in going. Lian has the Worst Pitch of the Week.  Kegels and kids do not mix.  Sorry, Kegel Bear.  Liz gets her latest DNA report from 23andme and is disappointed that their wellness tips are pretty much Self Magazine circa 1988. Lian’s grocery store trends and food trends include the prediction that “grocerants”, part restaurant/part grocery store are the coming thing.  OK, by why not call them “resteries”, a much better fake word. And Liz reads the spam that came into sisters@satellitesisters mailbox.  Highlights include:

SSJulie: My Big Fat Lab

Zorro relaxing at home after a nice meal

I got the word from my Vet this week that Zorro has to loose some weight.  While my kind doctor did not use the word fat or obese, he did shake his head when Zorro tipped the scales at 98 pounds. In my defense, here are the facts that you need to know about Zorro:

1. Zorro has always weighed 98 pounds. When I got Zorro three years ago, he came to live with us weighing 98lbs.

2.  He’s a big-boned dog. He is an English labrador retrriever and they tend to have stockier bodies, shorter legs and bigger heads than their American counterparts.

3. I walk him constantly. While he does enjoy napping, he gets plenty of exercise.

I guess  I am not alone with a fat pet.  According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention,  more than half of the dogs and cats in the U.S. are now overweight or obese.  Got a fat pet? Well,  I do.  So Zorro has begun a weight reduction program.  I promised my Vet that I would carefully measure out Zorro’s new, smaller portion dinners and eliminate snacks.  Some dogs like sister Liz’s Ferris  wouldn’t care if there was a smaller amount of kibble in their bowl, not Zorro. Zorro is a true-blue lab. And labs really, really love their food.  Zorro loves his 5:00p.m. dinner so much he starts looking for nourishment around 3:30pm.   And after he inhales his new lean cuisine, he gives me a look like, is that all there is? s I think he needs a support group.  I know I couldn’t have lost weight without the help of the Weight Watchers meetings.  Are there meetings for dogs?

Zorro has to go back to the Vet at the end of the month for a weigh-in.  Poor thing, I think I am going to remove his collar before he goes on the scale.

Julie: Cats vs Dogs

Finally, irrefutable scientific evidence to answer the great debate of which is the superior pet: cat or dog. While the Satellite Sisters are all dog people with the exception of Sheila, our position has always been based on anecdotal information. Cat people continue to write us and refute our understanding that dogs rule.
The debate is over. New Scientist took on the challenge and pitted cats against dogs in 11 categories: brain, shared history, bonding, popularity, understanding, problem solving, vocalisation, tractability, supersense, eco-friendliness and utility. Here’s the link to the article. I am not going to tell you who won although it seems pretty obvious when you look at the categories. Enjoy.

Julie: Dog of the Week

Meet Cody our Satellite Sisters’ Dog of the Week submitted by Anne. This picture epitomizes why dogs are so great…they are even willing to be a cat if that’s what it takes to please their owners.

Julie: Dog of the Week

Meet Pete, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and our Satellite Sisters’ Dog of the Week. Pete’s owner, Jeri gets a “A” for effort because she worked hard to post Pete’s picture on The Satellite Sisters’ Facebook page. I think you will agree when you read Jeri’s post to our Facebook Wall:

Just figured our why my adorable dog wasn’t selected for Dog Days of Summer…..there are TWO Satellite Sisters groups on Facebook and I happened to join the one without the “The” (i.e Satellite Sisters not The Satellite Sisters). I couldn’t figure out where all the adorable photos were that you guys kept referencing on your podcast. This was in August and since my pup was the only photo posted, I went in and took it down. I have now joined what I think is the legitimate site and am RE-POSTING the photo here on what I assume is the REAL site. You will be able to see just how adorable my new puppy is. Meet Pete…Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who completes our empty nest. Without our grown kids, you can now call us Peter, Paul and Jeri:)

Keep up the good work, sisters. My sis turned me on to you about a year ago and we’re both hooked.

Congratulations to Pete and Jeri and remember your dog, cat, bird or pony can be a Satellite Sisters’ Dog of the Week by simply going to THE Satellite Sisters Facebook page, friend us and post your pal. We love seeing your pets.
