Now that we've launched the new website, I will be updating these directions to be more current. Feel free to email me at sisters@satellitesisters.com with specific questions if you don't find the answers here.

Notes on Streaming, Podcasting and On-Demand

Streaming : is simply audio playing from your computer. There is LIVE streaming and ON-DEMAND streaming. LIVE obviously is when you can listen to the show as it is being broadcast. ON-DEMAND means the audio has been stored on a server and you can listen to it on your computer any time thereafter. You will need Windows Media Player to listen. Click here to download the version that's right for your operating system (available FREE for both PC & MAC users)

Podcasting : is a word that has become synonymous with any kind of streaming, much the way "Kleenex" has become synonymous with “tissue.” The literal translation of Podcast is a media file that has been sent to a server (like iTunes) and is coded in such a way that it can be transferred automatically into your iPod or other portable MP3 player.

What does all of this mean for us Satellite Sister listeners? We offer three options to hear the show. Just click here and scroll down to the bottom of the page where you can:

    • listen to the show on your computer any time by clicking the “Listen” link that you will see next to the show date you want to hear -- commercial free!
    • download the show to your computer by right-clicking the “Listen” link and "save file as" to save to your computer. You can then store it anywhere you want on your computer to save for later, burn to a CD*, or store in your portable listening device/MP3 player (i.e. iPod, Zune, SanDisk -- whatever you use!)
    • subscribe to the Podcast through iTunes and every time you plug your iPod into your computer, any new shows that are available will download automatically.

* NOTES FOR LISTENERS WHO WISH TO BURN CD'S BUT MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH THE PROCESS: If your computer came with a built-in CD Burner, you are halfway there. If you are not familiar with the process of burning a CD through your computer, check the user manual that came with the PC or Mac you own and follow their directions. If you can't locate your user guide (because really -- who ever reads those things, they're like 500 pages and it's all written in computer talk and they always end up getting thrown out with the box anyway), go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer and see if they have an online version of the users manual. You may have to purchase separate software that will enable the CD burner to work.

If you have a Windows Media Player and are running Microsoft XP or higher, you should be all set and not need any further software. Go here to read more about burning CD's using Windows Media Player.

If you still have questions, please email us with specific questions and we will do our best to help you out.
Be sure to put "Audio Question" in the subject line so Sarah gets it ASAP.
