A good time was had by all at the Santa Monica Public Library and Ester’s Wine Bar on Saturday April 22.  For the complete Facebook Live video of the show starring all five Dolan sisters, be sure to LIKE our Facebook Page.  It is posted there.  Thanks to all the Satellite Sisters and Satellite Misters who lined up early and stayed late for the festivities. You’re The Best!  We were happy to sign every book and bag you had.

Julie has shout-outs for 3 impressive women:  tennis champion and expectant mother Serena Williams, Astronaut Peggy Whitson and Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO and author of Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience and Finding Joy. Solid Gold Satellite Sisters all.

Serena Williams shuts down Ilie Nastase.

As if we could love you more. Serena Williams, #staynoisy.

Liz wants us all to watch Genius on National Geographic Channel, a ten-part scripted series from Ron Howard about Albert Einstein starring Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Flynn as old Einstein and young Einstein.  She attended the premiere and loved the first “unexpectedly racy” episode – you’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll learn a thing or two about physics! Here’s the extended trailer of Genius.

Lian is reliving her glory days this weekend with a set on her old college radio station.  Liz is refocusing on Operation Sea Turtle in advance prep for her physical next week.

We want to see your favorite personal photos of celebrations of friendship on our Facebook Group or to Instagram. Hashtag is #satsistersytb.  See your in Santa Monica or online.  You’re the best!

Prince Charles & Prince Harry. A Royal Report from a surprising source – Liz Dolan. Liz caught up with author/biographer Sally Bedell Smith whose new book is all about Prince Charles. Liz has bad news for Julie. Apparently, he’s not a terrible guy. Info about the author and book here. Then, the latest from Prince Harry about grief and recovery. Listen to the podcast where he discusses Heads Together and his own counseling after 20 years of grief.

The guy that invented the Internet died. And his name was Bob Taylor, the lab boss of the Xerox PARC lab. Here’s his obit. And here’s an appreciation by LAT writer Michael Hiltzek.

A new study reports that female Supreme Court Justices are interrupted in court far more than their male counterparts.  Supreme Court Justices.  They are just like us!

Book Nook: Liz recommends Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders.  His bestselling novel is fantastic as an audible audiobook, with a cast that includes Nick Offerman, David Seders, Bill Hader, Don Cheadle, Susan Sarandon and many more. Well worth a listen.

International Women of Courage, Monica’s Cutting Edge Science, Spring Break Travel

Lian Dolan International Women of Courage Los Angeles 2017

That’s Lian Dolan in the red rose at the end of a very emotional evening to honor the International Women of Courage. #staynoisy sisters!

Today on the Satellite Sisters podcast, it’s Liz Dolan and Lian Dolan on the International Women of Courage Celebration in Los Angeles, a night honoring the US Department of State’s International Women of Courage. Lian produced the evening’s program, armed with a clipboard, upbeat pop music and goodwill. Liz attended the event and she declared the night filled with emotion and meaning.

Plus, Liz has the scoop on the cutting-edge science from our very own sister nurse Monica Dolan. Wondering what she’s been doing on the job? Here’s the story about her stem cell stroke treatment’s dramatic results. Plus, can you blow up a balloon with your nostrils and how old can chinese herbs be before you thrown them out?  Liz’s next door neighbor experiments.

Spring Break News: Lian is gearing up to ski without the kids for the first time in many years.

Operation Sea Turtle: The Timing is Everything Edition.  Liz confesses she has been hiding from her former trainer for four years.  Until now.

Liz’s new podcast. Lian’s Got Talent? Julie’s got international news.

Liz has a new podcast launching next week called I Hate My Boss. She and her co-host will have some fun trying to help stamp out Bad Bossery and all the other drama that unfolds at the office. Call or write if you have your own dilemma. Workplace drama. Comedic relief.

Liz announces a new podcast she’s doing that launches next week.  It’s called I Hate My Boss.  Hear all about it! Then, Lian’s Got Talent? Oh, wait. No. Lian went to a TAPING of America’s Got Talent with a Satellite Sister from high school and a balloon unicorn. And Julie travels with world in her International News Round-Up: Russia, Malaysia, North Korea, Italy.  You are going to need an AWAY carry-on for this one!

On Monday April 3rd, Liz has a new podcast launching called I Hate My Boss.  Here’s a teaser. She’s co-hosting it with executive coach Larry Seal.  It’s a workplace advice show that combines comedy, drama and common sense.  Please go to iTunes and subscribe.  While you are at iTunes, why not leave a fresh review of Satellite Sisters?  Thanks.  If you want to participate in I Hate My Boss, call the hotline with your own workplace dilemma at 424-224-5711 or email the show at iHateMyBoss@wondery.com.  This weekend, you will get the first episode of I Hate My Boss in your Satellite Sisters feed so you can give it a listen.  You can also reach the show on Facebook or Twitter @IHateMyBossShow.

America's Got Talent Judges

Now that Lian has seen her up close and personal at the taping of America’s Got Talent, she can confirm that Heidi Klum is as beautiful in person as she appears on TV. We are just sorry she has to snuggle up with Simon Cowell.

Also today, Lian tells us the tale of a reunion with a long lost high school friend who came into town to compete on America’s Got Talent.  She can’t share all the details because the show has not aired yet, but you are going to want to get the news on this balloon artist whose ballon unicorn went viral.

Julie has a complete International News Round-Up today. Get the latest stories from Russia, Malaysia, North Korea and Italy.  You should try Gnammo, the app to get a home-cooked meal in Italy before it’s too late. Do you want an AirBNB for food?

Oh, brother. The Prime Ministers of Britain and Scotland meet to talk about Brexit and this is the headline that results?

On another international note, we just have to ask: Is this really necessary?  Thank you to Satellite Sister Zelah Meyer who gave us a little historical perspective on the Daily Mail in the Satellite Sisters Facebook Group.

In the Customer Service Department, both Liz and Julie had a major fail.  Liz has a bone to pick with Target.  Were 16 separate packages REALLY necessary for her 16 cushions? And Julie wants Hertz to know that she’s safe but she’s not HAPPY.

On the issues of #Leggingsgate, all three sisters may disagree on the United airlines dress code but ultimately agree that EVERYONE should wear more clothes on planes.  How about that for a plan? What with your short shorts and flip flops, aren’t you all freezing?

Satellite Sisters Recap Madam Secretary, Break in Diplomacy episode.

Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan do a Satellite Sisters recap of Madam Secretary

The Satellite Sisters recap Episode 315 of the CBS Drama Madam Secretary:  Break In Diplomacy.  Liz Dolan fills in for Julie Dolan as Acting Secretary of Recap reporting to Lian Dolan, Recapper-In-Chief.

The Satellite Sisters recap the CBS Drama Madam Secretary. Episode: Break in Diplomacy.

Let’s play “Who’s the inspiration?”  Hmm, let’s see. Who were the writers at CBS drama Madam Secretary thinking about when they wrote this episode?  This was a serious episode featuring serious themes about a world leader known for being a rough-around-the-edges narcissistic businessman who ran an unusual campaign. He has a history of lewd behavior and corrupt business dealings plus unusually close ties to a country that was a former foe. OK.  Guess.

If you guessed the Phillipines, you guessed right! Actually, that is the reputation of the ACTUAL president of the Philippines.
Storylines:
Satellite Sisters recap Madam Secretary Carolina Herrera dress on Tea Leoni.

Madam Secretary is just about to make it pretty darn clear to the President of the Philippines that sexual assault is not to be dismissed as a mere indiscretion. And she looks great in that Carolina Herrera dress while she does it.

Sock It To Me, Bess or Let Them Eat Drones

The Singapore Exchange – a meaningful territorial accord with Asia Pacific. She ends up getting in a fist fight with the Philipine leader, forcing her to decide – like every woman ever—whether she should she say something about an attempted assault.  But she can only make this decision after digging into what appears to be the biggest bowl of cereal ever poured.
Jay Undercover
Bess gets her CIA on and enlists Sadsack Jay to investigate the suspicious death of Kevin from Accounting, a deep cover CIA agent. Turns out Jay is pretty good at spycraft and uncovers Kevin’s real mission.
Duck Dynastys Goes to the Devil
We are rejecting this storyline on the grounds that Henry seems in way over his head. But we don’t trust Ian and his neck tattoos. Not one bit.
Binders Full of Blouses:
The star of the show—the Carolina Herrera dress Bess wore for seemingly 36 hours across the Pacific and back without a wrinkle.
The Orange Pussy Blouse—again, a political statement????
The Theory White Trench – impractical color but we want one.

Work-At-Home Parents Nightmare, Marissa Mayer, World Sleep Day

BBC professor tv fail

Best of the Internet! Every work-at-home parents nightmare, right? But we say #staynoisy Toddler Girl! We like your swagger.

On today’s Satellite Sisters, Lian Dolan celebrates “The Best of the Internet”.  We love the BBC video of the professor being interrupted by his kids during an interview,  the memes that sprang up from Kellyanne Conway’s comment on microwaves being used as tools of surveillance and the outpouring of love for Amy Krouse Rosenthal, the author of a much shared Modern Love column, who passed away. The first is the ultimate work-at-home parents nightmare, the second was a nutty “all in good fun” alternative to news and the third is just a heartbreaker, but a reminder that the internet can also spread love.

In other news, Liz is signing up to be a delegate of World Sleep Day. She is hoping that her responsibilities mainly involve napping in luxury hotels. She also wants to remind us that even though Marissa Mayer’s Yahoo severance package is insane, it’s nice to see a woman get overpaid as much as men! But before you get too excited, here’s a reminder from Fortune that the guy coming in to do her old job will be making DOUBLE what she was!  Who are you mad at now, internet??

Mikaela Shiffrin

Mikaela Shiffrin is on the verge of becoming the world’s top skier this year, an honor that will not come to Liz who sustained a career-threatening injury last night at her book club.

In her Operation Sea Turtle update about her health and fitness program, Liz reports on an athletic injury sustained during her book club.  That’s pathetic. Lian has several inspirational sports stories: the guy who paddled across the Atlantic, the amazing UConn women’s basketball team and Mikaela Shiffren, about to become only the 4th American to win a skiing World Cup.

And poor signage at the Louvre leads to a strike.  This is why you have to love the French.

Come join all five Satellite Sisters on April 22nd at the Santa Monica Public Library at 2 pm.  No-host Meet-Up to follow at Ester’s Wine Shop. Are you coming?  Thanks to Away Luggage for donating a door prize for this event.  Lian loves her Away Carry-On.  Come win one!
