Satellite Sisters Feb 12: Julie and Liz on Whitney and more.

by Liz on February 12, 2012

Whitney, thanks for all the chills. Your sisters are sorry to lose you.

Listen to today’s Satellite Sisters here.  Julie and Liz talk about the sad death of Whitney Houston.  I Wanna Dance With Somebody still makes us dance. Yes, we LOVED The Bodyguard and we are NOT embarrassed to say so.  And let’s just retire the National Anthem right now.  There will NEVER be a better Superbowl version.

Also on today’s show, Julie reports that she magically mastered speaking Italian this week.  Molto bene!

Plus, breaking news: Satellite Sisters Stick Up For A Supermodel. (You will never read THAT from us again!)  But, come on, people.  If you were married to Tom Brady, you would have done exactly the same thing Giselle did.

Plus MAILBAG!  We have loads of responses to you from The Satellite Sisters Facebook Group, our twitter feed @SatSisters, our blog at www.satellitesisters.com, and our email at sisters@satellitesisters.com. Thanks for keeping in touch.  So check out the show here and let us know how you are listening.  Stitcher? Facebook?  iTunes? iPhone app? Android app?  How’s it working for you?

Whitney’s death is sad. A mother, daughter, niece, friend, lost. We don’t know exactly what led to her death. But, her downfall due to drugs was very public for years. You say her name, and you think ‘that voice’. No gimmicks, dozens of side dancers, weird costumes needed – just pure talent. An amazing voice, a beautiful face, she was a grand star. The Bodyguard & The Preacher’s Wife & Cinderella, great movies! Rest in True Peace.

I just now finished listening to the show. I had some caregiving issues that took my free time until this morning.

Tip the derm? No. In my professional career I was tipped three times. One tip was more than I charged. While I appreciated the gesture it also put me in an uneasy position. I wanted to return the tips but couldn’t because I didn’t want to offend the client. You know what meant more to me than a tip? A thank you card for my service. I used to get thirty or so of them a year. Each one touched my heart. They are precious memories.

A few years ago for my birthday I asked of my friends and relatives not to give me gifts but instead to do one act of kindness. In two weeks there were over 200 hundred acts of kindness. What my Mom did was to sit down and write all her doctors a thank you note. She received personal phone calls from two doctors. Her eye doctor told her that in thirty years of practice he had never received a thank you note. The heart doctor that saved her life (she had six stents put in at age 88) also called and said the same thing. How sad is that? People that care for us we never thank.

No to the tip. Yes to take a few minutes to write a thank you note.

Thanks for y’all’s acknowledgment about loving “The Bodyguard” and loving Whitney Houston’s music. I watched the funeral yesterday and once again wished that I belonged to that community (translated: I wish that I was black). It seems like such a family…they all know that they somehow got here together and they came from kind of the same place. They recognize each other and there has got to be a bond there. When we people who are white walk down the street (or through the mall) or anywhere I certainly don’t feel any recognition about my fellow Caucasian unless they are wearing the similar clothes or have very prematurely white hair:)

Whitney’s funeral was amazing with CeCe and BeBe Winans, Stevie Wonder, Tyler Perry, RKelly, Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell. Just CeCe and BeBe would have been enough for me, but add the gospel choir and Reverend Winans half singing his sermon at the end and I was breathless…

My whole extremely white family always kid me about being a Houston fan and my great desire to be black, but if they had watched this funeral, they might not think it’s so funny
