First Satellite Sisters Show of 2012: Julie, Liz and Sheila Kick It All Off!

by Liz on January 8, 2012

Welcome to the first Satellite Sisters show of 2012!  Listen and enjoy here.

Julie’s visit to North Korean last year gives her a unique perspective on the death of Kim Jong Il.
Liz loves the all caucus/primary hoopla but is not sure we need QUITE this many Republican debates.
Two in the last 24 hours?  Really?

Yes, Sheila. Watch me on the Super Bowl. It would not be the same without you. Your friend, Mad Dog

Sheila sticks up for Madonna’s right to perform at the Super Bowl and is ready to believe whatever Beyonce says about her new baby.
Julie has her first Kindle moment and now she’s concerned she may never again see the inside of a bookstore.
And Sheila’s new 2012 experiment?  Bird-watching!  If only she could get the right footwear.

It’s easy to listen to Satellite Sisters here online but you can also have all of our shows (hundreds!) right on your phone if you download our Satellite Sisters App for either Android or iPhone.

Download Stitcher and you'll get all Satellite Sisters shows PLUS Lian's complete Chaos Chronicles collection. Double your fun.

Or check out Stitcher Radio’s App. It’s another easy way to have all of our audio right on your phone.

hi sisters..

happy new year!! what a fun program you just presented..I have been enjoying the archives as well. thank you so much for keeping on, no matter how busy you all are!! I just love you all.
today I was cracked up by monica’s logistics story re: the big white truck and the return of monitors.. that was funny.

I have tried contacting you re: the app..the podcast box does not have your app anymore and I have lost it. my emails are returned, so I am telling you this way. I have downloaded some shows, but I cannot gain full access as the app did..can you fix this ?? I have the box but not 2 tabs re: the shows or the content that contains the app..I use ipod touch.

I am a faithful listener no matter what; I love the warmth and love that comes over the air.
and of course the facts, news, laughs and many cups of coffee. you do change lives..

Great podcast. Love Julie’s analysis of PRNK. What a dreadful place to live. We can really appreciate the good old USA, warts and all. We may not all agree but freedom of speech is a beautiful thing.

So wonderful to hear Sheila participating and all the laughter, you always make me smile. Sheila: Birdwatching can be fun especially the part where you get lost in the woods. Don’t think that you need to buy trekking boots yet, borrow Lian’s.

Have a spectacular new year, Sisters.

Great show…laughing lots at the recap of Sheila’s birdwatching…”the northern shoveler” I’ll be looking for that species ;-)
Will you/Could you post the family photo from the wedding? I’d love to see it!
Keep up the great work,

Liz,

I’m glad you talked about audible books. I subscribed to audible books about a year ago and it was the greatest thing since getting an iPod. I really enjoy listening to books! It is like having my very own storyteller. I still avidly read books, but with the audios, I’ve double my consuption. It’s especially great for travelers like you and me.

I was a little snobby about audio books, but now I realize that it is the same as reading the books and not the lazy way out. In the past year, I’ve enjoyed some classics from Alex Haley and John Updike. I’ve also listened to Anna Karenina, which I would never have attempted to read. I just finished reading the book, The Help, which I listened to on audio last year and I found that the experience wasn’t spoiled because I knew how the story would end.

Here are some of my favorite audios:
Countdown by Deborah Wiles
Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet
In The Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson
The Hemings of Monticello by Annette Gordon-Reed

Great podcast, Sisters. Julie…that blogging incident is really scary. Be careful.

I have to put in a word for the Nook. I have two different versions and I love them both. “Kindle” is not synonymous with “E-reader”. Just saying.

Liz…I enjoy audiobooks a lot too. They are even great when you are home and have tired eyes or just feel like having someone else read to you. Have you ever checked any out from the library? They have a very good selection and they are FREE. If anyone is interested in gritty thrillers, I recommend a Norwegian author named Jo Nesbo. I recently listened to both “The Snowman” and the subsequent title, “The Leopard”.

Sheila…what can I say? I love you. You never fail to make me laugh out loud.

The weather has turned in Minnesota. What a lovely Spring we have had.

I would like to thank all 5 of you for continuting to podcast. It seems to be a lot, lot, lot of work. Nothing is as simple as it seems – just sit down and talk – NOT. I can see why Lian wants to keep in touch with her public but the rest of you?? I’m so grateful. I love being able to follow your lives. I started listening to you on satellite radio and if I can’t hear you every day, I can still hear you.
