If you’ve listened to the latest Satellite Sister podcast, you know I am planning for some international travel. I can’t disclose the location for fear that my parents may see this blog, you’ll just have to listen to learn the location. I want to share what’s in my personal travel kit for the trip.
Here’s what I am packing:
1. Ace bandage for my notoriously wobbly ankles; 2. iodine for cuts and in a pinch, water purification; 3. and 4. Pepto Bismol and Imodium for all things gastro; 5. a flashlight; 6. hand sanitizer ( I planning to bring a lot for me and to give out as gifts); 7. Cipro; 8. Zyrtec and Sudafed for my sinuses; 9. Antibacterial cream; 10. Cough drops ( which really help in highly polluted areas); 11. Aleve for pain; and 12. Kashi bars
I also read that duct tape can be used for puncture wounds so I may toss a roll in my bag and I am hunting for some dental cement in case I crack a filling and need to do some home dentistry.
I know SisterSpotters travel near and far so I would love to know what is in your personal travel kit.

Julie, thank you for the cough drop tip! I am also heading out on a trip that I have not revealed to my worrywart mother (hiking Machu Picchu) and am packing Lightload Towels, which fold up really tiny, weigh nothing, and are throwaways. This will be the first time I’ve used them but am hoping that they’ll be helpful for sweating during hiking and using as a washcloth whenever I come across a body of water!
Dental glue is in the toothpaste aisle, near all the denture stuff. Just hope you don’t need it.
put all of that stuff in a little bag with a satellite sisters logo on it and then you are really in the business!
Dental cement is a (slightly depressing, but handy) addition to your bag … I had a dental emergency recently so I’m thinking a backup plan for out of the country is pretty smart!
Julie
I rarely travel and you travel often so this is no doubt a pretty dumb question, but can you take iodine on a plane now?
If not I read somewhere you can get a prescription for iodine, which makes it a go.
Bill
I would leave the duct tape at home, might imply you are a bomber…
William J, you raise an interesting question. I was planning on packing my iodine in my checked luggage. Thanks Sunshine for the dental cement tip.
How about adding some various sizes of bandaides or tape and sterile guaze pads??
for myself, I have to take a very nice body moisturizer and some insect repellent and sunscreen. I don’t think Iodine is a problem at all.
Check out this amazon site for duct tape. Looks as if other people also think it is handy for traveling. You could just wrap some around a bottle of shampoo. My did used to wrap some masking tape around his deodorant bottle when he traveled.

2 other things I would add – about 12 clorox wipes in a ziplock (handy to disinfect anything) and a small pack of diaper wipes (my girls are grown but I still carry these everywhere – great for personal hygine in a pinch and also great at getting out spots on clothing)
I will also add my vote to a small role of duct tape – so many uses and can repari just about anything
I would add a Tide to Go stick in my travel bag and a small bottle of hand cream and chap stick.
