SSLiz: My Favorite New Online Vice? Travel Deals!

by Liz on August 31, 2010

This is not the view from where I am sitting now, except that it is what I am looking at on my laptop. Isn't that a nice little break from actual work? It's called Casa Palopo in Guatemala.

Help me, Satellite Sisters. I have a new online vice. It’s not what you are thinking.  No sex or gambling. I am addicted to the new breed of membership sites that send me deals every day on exotic travel.  Who needs a watercooler and co-workers to waste time with when you have sites like JetSetter?  Just when my energy begins to flag after lunch, I can click right over to their latest email and see how much money I will be SAVING if I book their special deals to hike the Amalfi Coast or attend Amansala Bikini Bootcamp in Mexico RIGHT NOW.  Of course, I would never really DO either of those things (they sound exhausting), but as pick-me–ups go, it’s better than eating a candy bar.

What’s your online vice?

For the record, subscribing to Satellite Sisters on iTunes  or joining our Facebook group does NOT count as a vice. (Search on The Satellite Sisters.)  Those are totally good uses of your time.

Liz I am with you on the vacation shopping on-line vice. Mine is VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owners) perusing vacation rentals for places I can never afford to rent.
Sheila also got me hooked on PerezHilton.Com not a good use of work hours.

Liz, check out gilt.com. I am warning you…it’s a time sink. I love window shopping at this site and now they have all kinds of vacation deals.

Monica — I’m with you on this one: VRBO — especially when i look at places in, say, aren’t THAT out of reach if I were the type of person to fly off to places just for fun!

I like cyberrentals.com – I don’t go for the exotic or luxury destinations … I just am looking for a change of scenery. I’ll settle for Provence or Cape Cod – they are both “not home” !!

Liz,
I am not a big traveler but I am an entertainment/celebrity voyeur. I LOVE:
Perez.com
COCOPEREZ
Gawker
IMDB ( for the crazy bios of actors)
FilmFreak.com ( for Walter Chaw)
And when times get tough…TMZ.

Am I the only one with a Youtube obsession? I try to limit myself but its so easy to get sucked in. Mainly I love to watch the baking demo’s but its hard to find just the right ones worth watching. Then there are some good singing ones, and babies and cats. But mainly I’m looking for baking vids and end up wasting a lot of time. But if I find the right ones its very comforting and relaxing.
