Men in the Doghouse, Entertaining Sheila movie review

Satellite Sisters discuss political scandal of the day: Eliot Spitzer and a prostitution ring.

On this New To You Satellite Sisters podcast from March 2008, Sheila diagnoses Eliot Spitzer as a “pathological narcissist”, a phrase that’s become more familiar lately, no?

Welcome to the Doghouse. On this New to You show from March 14, 2008, we tackle the gubernatorial sex scandal in NY: Eliot Spitzer, former crusading prosecutor and Governor of NY, is client #9 in a prostitution ring.  Dr. Sheila weighs in on his psychological state: “pathological narcissism”. Her diagnosis of this out-of-control politician is sounding so familiar now!

Julie puts a number of men “in the doghouse” for insisting that prostitution is a victimless crime.  Alan DershowitzJames CarvilleBill Maher, you are on notice!
The First Ladies Desk has a lot to say about Mrs. Spitzer. That poor woman stood by her man at his press conference and then Dr. Laura Schlessinger of radio fame was all over TV blaming her for not “doing enough to keep her man at home.” Shut it, sister.
Julie has an International News Round-Up about China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Entertaining Sheila reviews Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day.
Lian explains to her mother-in-law how to listen to a podcast.
Ten years later, we still want to help you figure this out!

Urban Nana in Brooklyn, DNA Report, Grocery Trends

Dennis Rodman at West Point

North Korea and Malaysia are in the diplomatic tit-for-tat and guess who steps up at West Point to address the issues?  Dennis Rodman. He offers to broker a meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un. We cannot make this up, people.

On today’s Satellite Sisters podcast, Urban Nana is in Brooklyn but Julie’s still got the international news from North Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines,  Lian has grocery trends and Worst Pitch of the Day plus Liz wants her DNA to work a little harder for Operation Sea Turtle.

Julie reviews the latest diplomatic tit-for-tat between North Korea and Malaysia over the assassination of Kim Jong Un’s half brother.  Good news for North Koreans who are now not allowed to leave Malaysia. Bad news for the Malaysian delegation in North Korea.  No exit for you. Luckily, we read that Dennis Rodman is stepping in to broker a meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un. Let us know as soon as they start selling tickets to that one. Julie also warns the team at our favorite CBS TV drama that the Philippine government is protesting an upcoming episode.  Fact or fiction?  We really can’t tell anymore. Be sure to listen to Satellite Sisters Talk TV recap of Madam Secretary for more discussion of Tess’ Philippine situation.

Satellite Sisters recommend the Fondoodler, a hot glue gun for cheese.

A hot glue gun for cheese? What took so long! The Fondoodler was one of many products that Liz found in the Satellite Sisters email box and cannot wait to try.

Lian says Jeff Bezos is working on amazon deliveries on the moon but Liz is still not that interested in going. Lian has the Worst Pitch of the Week.  Kegels and kids do not mix.  Sorry, Kegel Bear.  Liz gets her latest DNA report from 23andme and is disappointed that their wellness tips are pretty much Self Magazine circa 1988. Lian’s grocery store trends and food trends include the prediction that “grocerants”, part restaurant/part grocery store are the coming thing.  OK, by why not call them “resteries”, a much better fake word. And Liz reads the spam that came into sisters@satellitesisters mailbox.  Highlights include:

Civility Challenges, Total Taxi Fail

Monica Dolan tries to get to LAX using Taxi Taxi from Liz’s in Santa Monica. It turns out to be a Bust Bust.

On this New To You show from March 2, 2007, Monica, Lian and Lian focus on civility challenges. What they have really learned about civility from Dr. Forni?  Plus remember the days before Uber and Lyft?  Monica tells a tale of a taxi ride gone horribly wrong in Santa Monica. Total Taxi Fail.

Monica counted on Taxi Taxi to get her to LAX, but the trip turned out to be very emotionally stressful.  We ask you what you would have done in the same situation.  Bail or stick with it?

This may be a New To You show from 2007 but Dr. Forni’s advise on how to choose civility is even more helpful now. Calm. Strong. Kind. Can you do it?

Calm.  Spring.  Kind.  Those are the three elements of Dr. Forni’s definition of civility.  We are doing our best to live up to his challenge. Usually Julie Dolan conducts the weekly Civility Challenge with Dr. P. M. Forni but today they are both out, so Liz, Lian and Monica muddle through on their own. Under the civility umbrella, Lian has a bullying problem with her son that balloons into a political semi-scandal in her neighborhood. Liz wants to know if you can ever tell a sick co-worker to go home.

In other news, Keebler Elf dies.  RIP. Plus Lian practices grocery store anthropology to figure out how she could have made an egregious mistake. She never would have bought that product if not for a certain family that interrupted her Trader Joe’s flow.

Come join all five Satellite Sisters on April 22nd at the Santa Monica Public Library at 2 pm.  No-host Meet-Up to follow. Are you coming?  Let us know on this Facebook invite. More details from our travel agent to come later this week.

Oscars, Passive-Aggressive Meditation, @askTSA Twitter

Leo DiCarpio Hollywood Life

Julie is citing internet sources that say Leo DiCaprio may have been behind an Oscars conspiracy. We are not so sure because…you know…the internet.

On today’s show, Julie, Liz and Lian tackle Lian’s Podcast Pioneer Award, the Oscars snafu, Liz’s passive-aggressive meditation teacher, travel advice including what to pack if you are going to the moon and how much comedy you can find on the TSA Twitter feed @askTSA.

Lian spent last week on Orlando at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the Podfusion/Podfest gathering.  Many thanks to Elsie and Jess at ShePodcasts for including Lian and honoring her.

In all the Oscar mess, Liz feels very sorry for PWC executive Martha Ruiz whose colleague Brian Cullinan handed Warren Beatty the wrong envelope because he was too busy tweeting about Emma Stone. Sorry, @MarthaRuiz, that his boneheaded move probably lost you such a great gig. Was it a Leo DiCaprio initiated plot? Some in Hollywood think so. At least Marisa Tomei is finally in the clear.

Elon Musk‘s SpaceX has announced that it will send two tourists to the moon next year. It’s a pretty spendy trip, as you can imagine.  Liz is not interested unless she gets to step on the actual lunar surface.  None of this “long loop and then come home” stuff for her.

Julie hails the TSA’s introduction of a Twitter feed @askTSA where they answers pressing question like “Can I bring marshmallow fluff on the plane” and “How about my lives bees?”.  Some shocking, surprising answers!  Lian is boning up for her Global Entry interview at LAX this week.  What are they going to ask her to verify her identity?  Julie and Liz each had very different experiences.

On today’s podcast, Julie reviews Vol. 2 of Magnolia Journal, just in case you do not have enough Fixer/Upper in your life, here’s more from Joanna and Chip Gaines.

Is Lian keeping a secret from her sisters?  A family member spotted her somewhere she has not admitted to being. True? Where?

Operation Sea Turtle Update:  Liz is having a battle of wills with her meditation teacher.  That does not seem right, does it?  Lian has advice from O, The Oprah Magazine about how to keep calm in a competitive environment. She also recommends this meditation podcast from a woman she met at PodFusion, Meditation Minis http://meditationminis.com.

Julie reviews Chip and Joanna Gaines new magazine Magnolia Journal just in case you aren’t getting enough Fixer/Upper in your life.

Be sure to make your plans for our Satellite Sisters weekend in Santa Monica April 22.  All the details for hotel deal, event and after-party are here. Thanks to our Travel Concierge Catherine for the help!

Welcome new sponsor BarkBox!  Steffi was super enthusiastic about introducing our new deal for you.   Video of the unboxing to come!

Lian and Julie both love their new BarkBoxes just as much as Steffi and Zorro. Use our custom URL www.barkbox.com/sisters.

Sheila and Monica prepare to cover the Spirit Awards on the blue carpet.  They love the independent spirit! Sheila was way ahead of her time in her love of Ryan Gosling.
It’s Awards Season so Lian reads some of the great listener letters we have gotten from you for awards you think you are a shoo-in for!  Congratulations!
Monica has some new product reviews to share, plus a plea for one simple thing in grocery stores:  customer service! What happened to all the people in the deli department? Hellooooooo?
Kentucky Fried Chicken fish sandwich?? Maybe.
Cars that come with safety kits?  Yes, please.
Lavender scented tires? Not so much.
At 1 hour and 13 minutes in, we interview Laura Sessions Stepp about high school and college girls. She wrote a book called Unhooked: How Young Women Pursue Sex, Delay Love and Lose At Both.  There’s frank discussion of hooking up and oral sex so be aware if you are listening with your kids.
